Cholesterol is a fat-like substance, without which the normal functioning of the human body is impossible. Cholesterol is a kind of building frame that ensures the stability of cell membranes. It is also part of bile, sex hormones and vitamin D3. Most of this substance (about 80%) is synthesized in the liver, a smaller (about 20%) comes with food.
In the blood, cholesterol is contained in the form of complex compounds – lipoproteins. There are “good” cholesterol – high density lipoproteins, in the form of which excess cholesterol is removed from the body, and “bad” cholesterol – low density lipoproteins, which are worse excreted from the body and partially settle on the walls of arteries, forming cholesterol plaques. What does hemoglobin mean for the body?
Hemoglobin is a component of red blood cell cells and is a protein containing iron. It is because of this component that our blood is colored red.
Each hemoglobin molecule contains four iron atoms. This iron has the property of easily binding to molecules of oxygen and carbon dioxide and just as easily give them. This determines the main function of hemoglobin – oxygen metabolism, namely: nutrition of the body with oxygen and removal of carbon dioxide from it. Continue reading
