Infertility is not a sentence
Infertility is the scourge of our time. The infections, hormonal disorders, poor-quality, “artificial” food products, the frantic pace of modern life, constant stress are to blame for this. And as a result, 15% of couples in our country are deprived of the happiness of becoming parents. Just think: every seventh family experiences this tragedy – the inability to have children.
Spouses have been going to doctors for years, spending money, nerves, and most importantly – precious time. Indeed, every year the probability of conceiving, carrying and having a healthy baby is reduced. And hopes are melting. Unfortunately, infertility treatment is far from always successful. And for some, it was initially unable to help someone.
Today, medicine can do a lot, including the ability to overcome infertility. Detailed information on the possibilities of modern reproduction can be found on the website.
There are many ways to solve the problem of infertility. The most famous – IVF – in vitro fertilization, or “in vitro fertilization.” IVF medical service is now available to most infertile couples, as it is included in the compulsory health insurance program.
When the treatment of infertility by the gynecologist has not brought results, the only possibility of a natural pregnancy is the IVF procedure.
Modern technology, time-tested
The first children who appeared with the help of IVF are parents themselves for a long time – after all, the history of in vitro fertilization has more than 40 years.
All this time, scientists are improving the technology, achieving better results. Today you can be offered the following IVF options:
IVF in the natural cycle. An egg is taken from a woman, placed in a test tube and partner’s sperm are added to it. Fertilization occurs, as in vivo, with one random sperm.
IVF plus ICSI. ICSI (English intracytoplasmic sperm injection) is an injection of a sperm into the egg, or rather, into its cytoplasm. For this, the egg shell is dissolved and a selected sperm is introduced into it with a special thinnest needle.
Cryoprotocol. This is the same IVF procedure, but time-divided. Eggs are taken from a woman, they are fertilized with sperm, then the best and high-quality embryos are selected and frozen. Subsequently, the embryos are thawed and planted in the uterus. For transfer choose the most successful day when the endometrium is most prepared to accept the embryo. In addition, when frozen and thawed, the strongest embryos survive. That is why the results with cryoprotocol are higher.

According to statistics, 30–35% of IVF procedures end successfully
The choice of a specific protocol for the IVF procedure is for the doctor, who takes into account many factors: age, cause of infertility, results of tests and examinations, previous IVF attempts (if any), etc.
What do the numbers say? *
Of course, it is impossible to guarantee 100% that fertilization using IVF will be possible, and even the first time, and you can safely endure pregnancy. In medicine, they do not give such guarantees.
In addition, the results will depend on many factors.
Protocol. The cryoprotocol is more effective (23–25% of successful procedures on the first try), ICSI (32–35%), and the use of a donor egg (47%).
The age of a woman. In women under 34 years of age, they succeed in obtaining a successful result from the first attempt in 38.6% of cases, the chances of successful pregnancy and childbirth in women 34–38 years old are 30%, after 40 they decrease to 16.8%.
Account number attempts. With each subsequent attempt, the chances of success grow, increasing on average from 35 to 74% in the case of several procedures.
The reason for infertility. Better results are obtained with male infertility, pathology of the fallopian tubes, adhesions in the pelvis, polycystic ovary syndrome – pregnancy occurs in 50% of cases. The situation is worse when a woman has infertility due to several reasons at once or when male and female infertility are combined – 22.5 and 26% of successful pregnancies.
The “experience” of infertility. If a couple has been treated for infertility for three years, then her chances of successful IVF on the first try are 30%. With the “experience” of 3–9 years, the probability that everything will work out the first time decreases to 27–27.5%. If you wait 10 years, then expect that pregnancy will occur immediately, you can only in 20% of cases. After 15 years, this probability decreases to 15%.
The clinic where the procedure is performed. The result of IVF is affected by both the equipment of the clinic and the qualifications of specialists.
On average, 30–35% of IVF procedures successfully end in our country.
“Test tube kids” – what are they?
There are many myths and prejudices around in vitro fertilization. And this is understandable – for the birth of a baby conceived in such an unusual way, like a miracle.
Some prejudice children born with IVF, or, as they think, artificially. Like, they are not like ordinary children, and generally almost robots.
In fact, these kids are no worse and no better than their peers conceived “naturally”
